How to Make Your Discord Username in Bold

Discord does not support markdown in usernames. But you can use Unicode styled text to make your name appear bold, italic, or in any style you want.

Why usernames cannot use markdown

Discord supports markdown formatting (**bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~) in messages but not in usernames, nicknames, or server names. Those fields only accept plain text.

However, Discord does support Unicode characters. This is the key — instead of using markdown formatting, you can replace the regular letters in your username with Unicode characters that happen to look bold, italic, or script.

The Unicode workaround

Regular letter "A" is Unicode U+0041. The bold version "𝐀" is a completely different character, U+1D400. When you replace each letter in your name with its bold Unicode equivalent, your name appears bold in Discord.

How to make your username bold

  1. Go to The Divine Writer's Bold Text Generator

  3. Copy the bold result
  4. Open Discord and go to User Settings → Profiles
  5. Change your Display Name
  6. Paste the bold text
  7. Save your changes

Will this work in server nicknames? — Yes. Server nicknames support Unicode characters, so the styled text works there too.

Is my username searchable? — Your actual username (the @name) stays as regular text. The styled text is only the display name, so people can still find you by searching your normal username.

Can I change my actual @username? — No. Discord does not allow changing usernames freely, but you can always change your display name to styled text.
