How to Make a Cool Minecraft Name

Make your Minecraft identity stand out with styled text for your skin, server, and Discord. Here is how to create a memorable gamer tag.

Important: your login name must be plain

Your Minecraft Mojang/Microsoft account name cannot contain spaces or special characters — it can only include letters, numbers, and underscores. This means you cannot create an account with a styled Unicode name.

However, you can use styled text in:

  • Your display name on multiplayer servers that support it
  • Signs and books with formatting codes
  • Chat messages using styled Unicode text
  • Discord names linked to your Minecraft server
  • Server MOTD and branding

Using formatted chat codes in Minecraft

Minecraft has its own formatting codes for chat, signs, and books. The section sign (§) followed by a character applies formatting:

  • §l — bold
  • §o — italic
  • §n — underline
  • §m — strikethrough
  • §k — obfuscated/glitch

Example: §lHello World renders as Hello World.
